Koora Hotel
We chose this address because it borders the private Aguti Wildlife Reserve, a hush of...
Senda sits just outside the Monteverde Cloud Forest, on the continental divide where cool mountain air meets gardens that, on a clear day, open onto a distant view of the Pacific. The hotel reads younger than most addresses in the area: modern lines, local artwork and cosy nooks stand in for the rustic-lodge look that dominates Monteverde, without losing the forest immersion that brings travellers here in the first place.
We liked that the kitchen takes farm-to-table seriously rather than as a tagline: sustainably caught seafood, locally reared meat and poultry, in-house bread served with spiced chutneys, and plant-based dishes built with the same care as everything else on the menu. Every one of the 24 rooms and suites opens onto its own terrace, so the garden and the Pacific view are never a amenity reserved for a top-tier room category.
The hotel sits close enough to the Monteverde and Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserves for an early start on the hanging bridges, with over 500 recorded bird species in the surrounding forest for anyone travelling with binoculars. Don Juan’s coffee, chocolate and sugar cane tour, an aerial tram and night hikes are all a short drive away, making Senda a workable base for two or three forest-focused days without long transfers.

Junior Suites suit couples travelling with one or two children, with a separate bedroom and a shared terrace; Senda Suites step up to a standalone two-bedroom bungalow with two full bathrooms, built for families or two couples travelling together. Premium Suites face west for sunset and, on clear days, an ocean view, while Superior Rooms add a private living room with its own daybed. Every category keeps the same minibar, organic toiletries and twice-daily housekeeping, so the difference between rooms is space and view rather than service.
The restaurant’s sourcing runs through sustainably caught seafood and locally reared meat and poultry, with bread baked in-house daily and served with spiced chutneys and nut butter rather than plain rolls. Plant-based dishes get the same creative attention as everything else on the menu, a detail that matters on a cloud-forest itinerary where vegetarian options can otherwise default to a side salad.
What sets Senda apart from Monteverde’s older eco-lodges is the pairing of genuine forest access with a hotel that does not ask guests to trade comfort for immersion. The cloud forest reserves, with their hanging bridges and more than 500 bird species, start a short drive away, while the hotel itself stays firmly contemporary: clean lines, curated local art, and terraces built for the view rather than function alone.
